Fantastic news for those with a mobile card game-shaped whole in their heart. A nice little teaser video has been released on social media by the Digimon Card Game company, in which we see a Renamon get sucked into a mobile phone. This, it appears, is a hype video for an upcoming Digimon mobile card game we’ll be learning about very soon.
In fact, we’ll be hearing more about the game during Digimon Con on March 19. For those truly eager to learn more, the announcement will be taking place at 7PM PST / 10PM EST / 2AM GMT / 3AM CEST. You’ll be able to watch the reveal live on the official Digimon YouTube account here.
Digimon Con is an annual fan fest of sorts, in which new reveals for the card game, anime, toys, comics and more are revealed to Digimon lovers around the world. The card game, which obviously is the focus here, has been around for quite some time! The cards were first released in Japan in April 2020, before landing overseas the following year. As for Digimon card game video games, there have been a few!
There was a PS1 game that some fans really love, and then there’s fan games like Project Drasil which aren’t official but have kind of stood out as the sole representation of Digimon card games in the video game form. So basically, there’s an empty stage set for a Digimon card game right now.
In terms of competitors, this game will surely be head-to-head with a few big hitters. We aren’t sure how pure of a Digimon Card Game replication it’ll be, but if it does follow standard TCG rules then it’ll be smacking up against the likes of Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel. If it’s taking a more casual approach, then obviously it’ll be nibbling at the massive plate of food Pokemon TCG Pocket has been feasting on.
